FAQ

Our classes are catered for all skill levels, 7 to 13 years old. We begin with our introductory class, The Art of Hand Sewing. This class helps them develop focus, coordination, and confidence in a calm, hands-on way. Machine sewing & Doll Making is generally introduced from 8 years old, once these foundational skills are in place. Some children may be ready to start machine sewing/doll making earlier than others, and we assess readiness based on focus, ability, and comfort level to ensure a positive and safe learning experience.

If a child is of an older age (9+) they could start the other classes without finishing The Art of Hand Sewing, although we do recommend.

No previous sewing experience is required. We simply ask that beginners start with our introductory class, The Art of Hand Sewing. Children ages 9+ may begin with other sewing classes without completing The Art of Hand Sewing first, although we do recommend it.

Most importantly, children should have a genuine interest in sewing, making, and creating, and be eager to learn and participate. We want every child to enjoy their time at Dot Dot and take pride in what they create!

Our classes are small and hands-on, so children should be comfortable participating in a group setting with age-appropriate guidance and be able to follow safety instructions. If your child has additional support needs that may affect their participation, please reach out before registering so we can chat about how we can best support them and whether a group class is the right fit.

If your child requires continuous one-on-one support or frequent individual redirection, a private lesson may be a better fit and allow us to give them the individual attention they need.

Drop-Off Classes

All regular sewing classes and camps at Dot Dot are drop-off experiences, encouraging independence and a focused, creative environment.

There is plenty of street parking. Our home studio is located in the foothills of Altadena.

• Spring Camp, sibling discount $30. 
• Holiday Camp, 2 weeks 5%, 4 weeks 10%.
• Fundraiser & Auction Donations cannot be combined with sibling discounts.

We capture the children's progress through pictures shared with parents and on our Instagram platform. Enrolling in our classes grants permission to use the images on Instagram and our website unless you opt out in writing.

Missed Classes

Please make sure you can commit to all registered class dates. We understand that children get sick and plans sometimes change. If your child will be absent, please let us know as soon as possible.

Because our classes are intentionally small and each spot is reserved specifically for your child, we are unable to offer refunds, credits, or individual make-up classes for missed classes or no-shows.

If your child cannot attend, you are welcome to gift their class to a friend of a similar age. Please let us know in advance so we know who to expect.

Cancellations Before a Class Session Begins

A full refund is available when cancelling 21 days or more before the first class, less any non-refundable payment processing fees.

Cancellations made 20 days or fewer before the first class are eligible for a 50% refund.

If we are able to fill your child's spot from our waitlist, we will be happy to refund the remaining class fee, less any non-refundable payment processing fees.

Camps

Our camps are designed for kids who genuinely enjoy sewing, making, and creating. No previous sewing experience is necessary, but children should be interested in and excited to participate in sewing and hands-on creative projects. We want every child to enjoy their time here and feel excited about the projects they’re working on!

We understand that plans can change. Because camp spaces are limited and your child's spot is reserved specifically for them, camp cancellations require at least 30 days' notice to receive a full refund, less any non-refundable payment processing fees.

If your plans change, we encourage you to consider transferring your registration to another available camp before cancelling. Transfers are subject to availability.

Cancellations made less than 30 days before the start of camp are non-refundable. If we are able to fill your child's spot from our waitlist, we will be happy to refund the camp fee, less any non-refundable payment processing fees.

Sewing Club Membership & Cancellation Policy

The Sewing Club is a recurring monthly membership that includes three 2-hour sewing classes each month, with all materials provided. Payments are automatically processed each month until the membership is cancelled.

Class Schedule

Your child may continue in their current class whenever it remains on the schedule—there is no need to select a new class every month.

Our class schedule and offerings may vary from month to month. If your child’s current class is no longer offered, or if you would like to switch classes, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help you choose another available option. All class selections and changes are subject to availability.

Member Perks

Sewing Club members receive complimentary access to Crafty Saturdays when offered, plus one designated make-up class opportunity each quarter, subject to availability. Advance registration is required for Crafty Saturdays, as space is limited.

Missed Classes

We understand that children get sick and plans sometimes change. If your child will be absent, please let us know as soon as possible.

Sewing Club members receive one designated make-up class opportunity each quarter, subject to availability. Outside of this member benefit, our regular Booking & Cancellation Policy applies to missed classes and no-shows.

Schedule Changes

Occasionally, Dot Dot may need to adjust a class date, time, or monthly class offering. If we need to cancel or reschedule a class session, families will be notified and an alternative class date or option will be provided.

Membership Pause

After two consecutive months of membership, Sewing Club members may pause their membership for one month, once within a 6-month period. During the pause, your child’s regular class spot will remain reserved and no membership payment will be charged.Membership and automatic billing will resume the following month.

Cancellation

If you need to cancel your Sewing Club membership, please contact us at least 30 days before you would like your membership to end. We will confirm your cancellation and final class month by email.

Because our classes are intentionally small, 30 days’ notice helps us plan our upcoming class schedule and make availability open to other families.

Payments that have already been processed are non-refundable.

Crafty Saturdays & Workshops

Crafty Saturdays and special workshops have limited availability, and materials are prepared in advance for each child. Crafty Saturday and workshop Registrations are non-refundable.

If your child is unable to attend, you are welcome to gift their spot to a friend of a similar age. Please let us know in advance so we know who to expect.

A Few Things to Know

The studio address will be included in your confirmation email after registration.

Classes require a minimum of 3 students. If a class does not meet the minimum enrollment, we may cancel it and will notify families approximately one week before the class begins. Families will receive a full refund.
